THE COMPANY

GAUCHO GROUP International, LLC, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia is an importer, marketer and temperature control warehousing of a carefully chosen fine wine portfolio from little-known corners of the New World.

Marcelo Zapata founded GAUCHO GROUP International, LLC, in the city of Atlanta in 2002 with the same strong entrepreneurial spirit inherited from his pioneering ancestors from Mendoza. He belongs to the 8th generation of one of the most traditional families from Mendoza, who, having first arrived in Mendoza in 1723, took root in the foothills of the Andes Mountains to cultivate grapes.

GAUCHO GROUP International’s MISSION is to introduce some of the finest and hidden value wines from the New World, particularly from the region of Mendoza, Argentina, to the U.S. market.

GAUCHO GROUP International’s OBJECTIVE is to establish strong commercial relationships with regional wholesale distribution companies, wine stores, restaurants, wine bars and liquor stores in order to expand a limited market of high quality value wines from the New World.

Sincerely,

Marcelo Zapata

MENDOZA, ARGENTINA

Mendoza is located in western Argentina nestled at the foot of the Andes Mountains. Dating back to its first European settlement in the sixteenth century, the city now covers an area of 58,300 square miles with a population of 1.6 million people. Sitting 2,500 feet above sea level in the valley of the Río Mendoza, the area enjoys a climate that is dry and mild with average temperatures ranging from 14ºF in winter up to 86ºF in summer. Average rainfall is 10” and the continual presence of snow in the mountains allows for excellent irrigation.

Mendoza produces and exports fine wines, grape juice concentrated, olives and olive oil, fresh fruits and vegetables, garlic, specialty products and minerals.

Jesuit missionaries planted the first vines in Mendoza in the 16th century, but production really took off in the mid-1800s with the arrival of Italian and French immigrants. Today Mendoza continues to manufacture 70% of the wine produced in Argentina. Sandy soil, warm sunny days and often very cold nights create an especially healthy environment for natural vines.

The existing resources of Mendoza's wine-producing regions provide outstanding conditions for growing high-quality grapes in the most natural and healthy environment. Extensive investment, training, and utilization of modern technology as well as the application of international product knowledge and markets are factors which reflect a forward-thinking attitude enabling Mendoza to provide value wines with all the color, aroma, fruit, flavor and quality of the finest wines from the Old World.

When people think of wines from Mendoza, they usually rave about red wines and particularly the Malbec that has acquired a well-deserved reputation. Other popular grape varieties found in the region are Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, Bonarda, Tempranillo and Sangiovese. Mendoza’s main grape varieties for white wine production are Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon. Viognier has been introduced with a startling success.

Malbec has found uniquely favorable growing conditions in Argentina and the claims that Argentine Malbec is one of the most successful and delicious in the world are fully founded. Its intense color, aroma of berries, plums and honey, and its ability to ripen to perfection create wines of a velvety texture and long, soft flavor. When aged in oak barrels, the extra dimensions of vanilla and soft tannin give great structure and body.

Exports of Argentine wine have doubled in four years to $125 million since 1996. Analysts say Argentine wines are expected to be competitive over the long term because of ever-improving conditions of production and increasing demand for excellent value wines. Land and labor costs in Argentina remain well below those in Europe, Australia and the United States. According to investors and Argentine winemakers, Argentina, the world’s fifth wine producer, will have seen a 15% growth in wine exports in 2001. Argentina currently has more than 80 wineries that export with an annual potential to export more than $1 billion worth of wine in another decade all the while maintaining a domestic market for fine wines that surpasses $1 billion in annual sales.
